'Smarty Pants' Cook
We love this gorgeous photo of Smarty, our Horse of the Month for June! Earlier this year Smarty’s owner Hazel noticed a few changes in Smarty’s condition: her coat was thicker than it had ever been before, she was lethargic, and there was some muscle wastage. Hazel mentioned these findings to her vet when they were visiting Smarty for another matter, and the vet was suspicious of Equine Cushing’s Disease. A simple blood test was carried out and confirmed the vet’s suspicions: Smarty had a high level of ACTH in her bloodstream which confirmed a diagnosis of Equine Cushing’s disease. She has been on treatment since February and Hazel is delighted that Smarty’s coat is nowhere near as thick and she is back to her old self! Thank you for sharing her story with us Hazel!
